“You know”—says my fiancé on a fine afternoon blessed with spring scents— “plants track a helix during growth, in search for light, compacting and optimizing” (and he shows me the pattern of the growth-dance of an aloe plant in Cecil Balmond’s book, Element).

My professional career has a traceable pattern of its own. Born in Romania, I graduated from the prestigious “Babes-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca, with a major in Romanian Language and a minor in Ethnology, followed by an MA in American Studies. I then completed a Ph.D. in General and Applied Linguistics in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Nanjing University, P.R. of China, which gave me an even deeper insight into the cross-linguistic differences and an appreciation for their variety.

At present I am living in Tokyo and I am pursuing my academic interests in linguistics, translation and language acquisition.
